Nikiesha Thomas, 33

Thursday October 7, 2021 marked the culmination of a brief, yet impactful journey that began on February 14, 1988 when our beloved Nikiesha Thomas was born in Silver Spring Maryland.

Nikiesha spent the early part of her formative years in Portland Jamaica with her paternal grandparents, Wilfred and Doris Thomas.  She later joined her parents in Silver Spring Maryland where she attended Brooke Grove Elementary School, Farquhar Middle School and Sherwood High School. An honor student with an infectious spirit, who went on to chase her dreams of a career that would afford her the opportunity to live out her passion of service to her fellowmen.

Nikiesha attended Clark Atlanta University where she completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. Her passion for learning led her to the University of Maryland where she obtained a master’s degree in social work. She graduated with Cum Laude honors from both universities.

In keeping with her life’s goal of service to the neediest, Nikiesha sought after and obtained a social worker position with the Washington D.C. government, serving as an early intervention specialist who served underprivileged children with developmental disabilities.

A few words that could be used to describe Nikiesha are: assertive, caring, humble, kind, loving, quiet, tenderhearted, yet one should not take her kindness for weakness—she could also be considered a fierce young woman who held fast to her beliefs of defending those she loved.

Nikiesha was the most dedicated, loving, and protective mother to her daughter. Her daughter was the center beam of her life, and she gave everything that a mother could give.

Nikiesha was predeceased by her paternal grandparents and her maternal great grandmother all with whom she had a special bond. She is survived by her daughter, mother, father, siblings, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends who mourn her loss. She will be tremendously missed.

Sleep on our beloved and take your rest. Your rich legacy will never die. You will forever remain in our hearts and in our minds.
