Ralph Allan Cooper
Ralph Allan Cooper was born in Washington, DC at the Freedmen’s Hospital on November 16, 1946 to the late Welford and Bessie (Crockett) Cooper. He transitioned peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD.
Ralph was born and raised on Oaklyn Drive, Potomac, Maryland in the neighborhood known as “The Pines”. He received his formal education in the Montgomery County Public School system, graduating in 1964 from Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD.
On November 14, 1970, Ralph married Patricia Ann Carter and started their life together in Rockville, MD. Ralph and Patricia were happily married for 52 years. From this blessed union he became a devoted and loving father to Tiara Cooper and Robert and Lisa Carter. He also became a loving and doting grandfather dedicating his time assisting his wife Patricia in raising two of his grand-children, Tamika and Bridgette Carter and later his great grandson Savon Carter.
In his younger years after finishing his education he started his professional career as a building service engineer at the Pathways Baptist Church in Gaithersburg, MD. He later followed his love of painting and the calling of his entrepreneurial spirit by starting his own contracting company, The Cooper Brothers with Alfred and Van, until his eyesight began to deteriorate making it difficult for to him to continue that line of work.
Ralph was a member of the Goshen United Methodist Church attending regularly until his failing health prevented him from doing so. He loved spending time with his family, traveling to Atlantic City, NJ, Dover, DE and Charlestown, WV. Ralph loved talking on the phone and sharing information with his family. He always had a story to tell and more information than CNN. He had a fondness for food and would share with anyone that crossed their threshold and especially his sisters fried chicken and pound cake. Ralph and Pat would break bread and share their home to any family member or friend that was in need
Ralph leaves to morn his passing and cherish his memories his devoted wife s Patricia A. Carter, his three children, Tiara Cooper, Robert and Lisa Carter; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; several great, great grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Nkansah and Beverly Cooper; two brothers, Melvin (Odelia) and Norman (Evelyn) Cooper and one brother-in-law, Michael Carter; three sisters-in-law, Mary Carter, Gloria (Van) and Cheryl (Welford, Jr.) Cooper along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Phillip, Edward, Welford, Jr., Alfred (Knute), and Van; and his nephews, Darius Cooper, Keon Jones and Saeed Smith.
