Raymond Butler Sr. Obituary

Raymond Butler, affectionately known as, “Coach Ray,” of the DMV, was born on February 10, 1976, in Detroit, Michigan.

From adolescent years to late teens, Raymond moved to SE Washington, DC. He later moved to Silver Spring, MD. and attended Montgomery Blair High School, graduating class of 1995. At Blair, he was able to showcase his talents on the football field. Immediately following High School, Raymond first attended Montgomery Community College and then transferred to, The University of New Haven, continuing his love and passion for football. After attending college, Raymond moved back to the DMV area, continuing his legacy in football.

In his early twenties, Raymond was blessed to have two children, Raymond and Rai’Nique Butler.

Throughout his twenties and thirties Raymond ventured and explored occupations such as a Telecommunications Specialist to a Skills Development Coach. With every occupation he sought after, football was always at the forefront of his mind. From starting his first coaching job at Emery Recreation Center in Washington, D.C. to becoming Head Coach at Bullis School in Potomac, MD., Raymond was not only extremely passionate about the sport, he was truly invested in all of the young men and women he trained and mentored over the past twenty years.

At the young age of 48, Raymond passed, on September 2, 2024. Raymond’s family and community have truly gained a guardian Angel. Raymond was and still is so blessed and loved, not only by his children but, family, friends and so many others.

We will miss him so much.
