Rebecca Clemmons Obituary

Rebecca Clemmons died peacefully at home on May 5, 2020 surrounded by family. She was born in Riegelwood, North Carolina on September 16, 1929.  She graduated from Armour High School and after graduation attended community college in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Shortly after, Rebecca married William Clemmons on June 4, 1950 and they left North Carolina, moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  After a brief stay in Philadelphia, in 1951 they relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts and she lived there over 60 years.

Rebecca was a God-fearing woman who had a strong faith and belief in the Lord. She joined Gardner Memorial A.M.E Church where she served faithfully on the Usher Board, as a Class Leader and taught Vacation Bible School. Rebecca eventually went back to college and graduated from the University of Massachusetts in 1974, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in education.  She went on to teach at Liberty Elementary School in Springfield, Massachusetts and retired at the age of 62. Eleven years after the passing of her husband, Rebecca moved to Germantown, Maryland in 2011 to be closer to her children.  She became a member of the People’s Community Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland and remained a member until her passing.

Rebecca is survived by her son, William Clemmons (Washington, DC); her daughter Fern Miller (Germantown, MD); her granddaughters Colleen Boyd (Jerald); Charysse Taylor (Franklin) and four great-grandchildren, Justin Boyd, Jackson Boyd, Sydney Taylor and Morgan Taylor.  She will be missed by family and friends.
