Richard Clinton Offutt, born December 20, 1946 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of hands-on kindness and community spirit. He was known lovingly as the “sharp shooter” in life and in fatherhood.
A graduate of Richard Montgomery High School and Sherwood High School, Richard devoted his 30+ Year career to Montgomery County Public Schools. Whether fixing up classrooms or mentoring young men in his shop, he poured his heart into helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, AnnaMae Blassingame and Daniel Clinton Offutt, and by his siblings Bobby Offutt, Jerry Offutt, and Joyce Offutt.
Richard’s surviving family includes his siblings Norman and Veramae Blassingame; his six sons—Richard Offutt Jr., James Offutt, Timothy Hebron, Daniel Offutt, Stephen Offutt, and Theron Offutt—and his adoring grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
He bowled, played pool and golf, built two race cars from scratch, and tackled any home-improvement project he could find. To everyone who called on him, Richard was a dependable friend and neighbor: always ready to lend a hand, even if he’d grumble about you - retelling his stories later.
Richard’s impact on his family and community is immeasurable. His legacy of generosity, craftsmanship, and unwavering support will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
