Rosa Leigh Williams Obituary

Rosa Leigh Delois (Campbell) Williams was born to the late Robert Louis Campbell and Elsie Ruth (Berry) Campbell on February 12, 1940.   Rosa Leigh was born at Mt. Alto Hospital (the only hospital that would take African American people).   She was raised in Brunswick, Md.  in a kind, loving and secure household, where she had a close bond to her Parents.   Rosa Leigh especially had a close bond to her Daddy.  As well as her eight siblings, whom she also loved very much.  She also had a close bond with her Aunt Rosa (Rosie) and her Grandfather (Grandpap).  A former slave, who she would pick violets for.  She also had a great bond with her Stepfather, Kenneth Anderson (Pop). Rosa Leigh loved Family and Friends.  Rosa Leigh attended segregated schools from the time she started school from the time she graduated in 1958.   She traveled by bus to Lincoln High School in Frederick County, Md.  , where she would eventually graduate.   Now there was Brunswick High School (only for Caucasian students) within walking distance for her, her siblings and other African American students in the area.    Rosa Leigh married her childhood friend, Mr. Billy Moten at the tender age of 21.   Later, she met and married her Doctor Doc Williams on June 19, 1971.  (Arthur James Williams).   This couple were married 40 years, with only the passing of her husband separating them.  During this union they adopted a little black boy named Lamont, which they added an e to. (now Lamonte).   Rosa Leigh and Doc would have fiery and funny debates about who comes from the most country place.   Was it Brunswick or Poolesville?    Poolesville where her husband was from.   But, when Poolesville got bus service, Doc's smile couldn't be wiped off with the strongest eraser!!   Rosa Leigh was a kind, gentle, funny, hilarious and caring Mother.  She would tell her son funny jokes, sing songs and tell funny stories that she learned from her Parents.   She was a great cook, who loved to feed people.  Her son would often tell her that she could make a piece of paper taste good!!  Westerns were a staple in Rose's and Doc"s home!!  Watching them most anytime they were on.  Watching Golden Girls and talking history (especially Black History) were something Rosa Leigh and her son enjoyed doing.   Before Rosa Leigh's health began to fail, Rosa Leigh and her son enjoyed going to eat at various restaurants.  The two making the comment that,  "They are dining sufficiently!!"  Also, grabbing ice cream in Point of Rocks and Gaithersburg we're something the Mother and Son also enjoyed doing.  Rosa Leigh and her Husband, Cousin and Friends would enjoy taking trips together.  Fun times and good memories were made  on these trips. One of the favorite places for the couple to eat was the Apollo Restaurant in Rockville.  Rosa Leigh was also an excellent seamstress, who could look at a piece of clothing and most times did not need a pattern to make it!!   Rosa Leigh had a beautiful high soprano voice, filling her and her husband 's home with the most beautiful sound.  And when her husband added his low bass voice, "Wow, just Wow!".    Rosa Leigh was also a great actress, starring in many church plays and skits.   And wrote and directed one of her own!!    Rosa Leigh loved children and spent most of her 33 year career working with children.   She worked as a Teacher's Aide, a Teacher and a Social Worker Assistant for Head Start.   Rosa Leigh also worked at Chestnut Lodge in Rockville, Md. where she met her Doc.   Rosa Leigh accepted JESUS CHRIST as her Lord and SAVIOR as a young woman.   She was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Rockville, Md.   Rosa Leigh and her Family attended St. Paul Church in Poolesville, Md. (Sugarland) and then First Baptist Church in Kensington, Md. (Ken-Gar) before attending Lee Memorial A M.E.C. in Kensington, Md.   (Ken-Gar).where many of her Family members were already attending.   Rosa Leigh immediately joined the Senior Choir, because she loved Seniors.   She remained a faithful member until her health began to fail.   Some of her other ministries included: Membership on the Steward Board, Women's Fellowship, Collingwood Nursing Home Ministry, Tuesday Morning Facilitator for the 6 am Prayer Call, Coffee Ministry, Making Breakfast for a Pastor and his son's on Father's Day, Making sure the Seniors received their love offerings for Christmas, Sunday School Teacher and The Benevolence Committee.   Rosa Leigh was a very hard worker and would do whatever she could to be of assistance to her Pastor, her fellow members, anyone in the church or anyone in the community.  She loved everyone; no matter the race, religion, it didn't matter.   Rosa Leigh and her Doc would NEVER see anyone with the two H's; Hungry or Homeless.   The loving couple feeding and having people living within their walls on a constant basis.  Rosa Leigh was a nonjudgmental, real, loving and honest lady.   She will be extremely missed by her son that loved her so very much and everyone that knew her.
