Rosie Ellen Weaver departed this life peacefully on May 3, 2025, at the Autumn Lake Healthcare at Oakview in Silver Spring, Maryland. She was born at home on June 11, 1920, in Brinklow, Maryland to Clifton Thomas and Mary (Simpson) Thomas.
Rosie was raised in Brinklow, and like so many during that time, attended school in a little one room School House through the six grade.
Rosie was married to the late William Weaver. Although they loved children, they did not have any of their own. She often took care of and provided support for her nieces and nephews.
During World War II, while many of the men were fighting in the war, Rosie along with other women entered into the workforce. Rosie worked at the Bureau of Engraving (now Department of Treasury) for fifteen years. Because of her passion for children, she later became a nanny for eighteen years.
Rosie was a “daddy’s girl” and would help in the garden and always went to church with him. In her later years, she was a steward at Union Wesley AME Zion church. She also enjoyed playing softball and she loved to dance.
Highlights of her life were being interviewed by NBC 4 News when she turned 102 years old; and FOX 5 News when she turned 104. She received a Recognition of Appreciation Certificate from Mark Elrich, the Montgomery County Executive and A Century of Achievement Certificate from Autumn Lake Healthcare for her 104th birthday celebration.
Rosie made long-lasting friendships wherever she went. Her presence is going to be truly missed by all who knew her.
Rosie leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and only surviving niece Eleanor Ware, and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents Clifton and Mary Thomas; her five brothers Henry, Edward, Benjamin, George, and Malcolm Thomas; and four sisters Martha Bowie, Ella Carter, Elizabeth Walker and Mildred Thomas.
