Rudolph Newman Baker

Dr. Rudolph “Rudy” Newman Baker of Rockville, Maryland passed away peacefully on November 9, 2023. He will be remembered for his love of family, determination, and the special friendships formed during his lifetime.

Dr. Baker was the son of the late Raymond Leroy Baker, Sr. and Mabel Grace (Newman) Baker. He attended public schools in Rockville, MD and received his post-secondary education at universities in the DC area. He was predeceased by his siblings – Muriel Baker Knuckle, Helen Baker Weaver, and Raymond Leroy, Baker, Jr. In his youth, Dr. Baker and his family faithfully attended  Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church in Rockville, Maryland along with many extended relatives of the Baker family.

A strong work ethic and the well-being of his family were paramount in the life of Dr. Baker. He  was a beloved soulmate to his wife, Martha Hamilton Baker for 55 years, a loving father and mentor to his children -Jeffrey Newman Baker and Jennifer Baker Hester. He was an adoring grandfather (Papa), and mentor to  Madisen Jalen Baker, Gabrielle Elise Hester, and Graham Newman Hester. He was a friend and mentor to his cousins, nieces, and nephews. Friendships forged in childhood were bonded for life during his adult years because of his generous and humble nature.

Visitation will be held for Dr. Rudolph Newman Baker on November 21, 2023  from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Clinton A.M.E. Zion Church , 223 Elizabeth Avenue, Rockville, Maryland  followed by The Celebration of Life Service. The interment will take place immediately after service at the Parklawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Rockville, Maryland.
