Shirley Mae Windear, was born October 9, 1938 in Loudoun County, VA to James Berkeley Evans and Ruth Ann Timbers. Shirley worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington, Woolworth and Seventh Heaven. In 1967 Shirley successfully completed studies under the leadership of Reverend Phillip Davis and Houston Brooks at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Rockville, MD to become an evangelist. Shirley was a born again Christian and traveled preaching the words of the Lord.
Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking, entertaining friends and family, reading, speaking and teaching others the gospel, she enjoyed playing Rummikub, watching cooking shows with her daughter and trading recipes. While living at Traville Gardens, she started International Day where residents would make dishes from their country of heritage. She enjoyed participating in and coordinating various events with family and friends.
Shirley met Mervin Windear Sr. and they married in Rockville, MD in 1959. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children Adrienne Windear, Mervin Windear and Eric Windear, one son-in-law Mark Windear; one daughter-in-law Monique Williams; one granddaughter Kaya; siblings Geraldine Wilson, James Evans; brother-in-law’s Oliver Tyler Sr., Nathaniel Paige and Charles Haywood; sister-in-law’s Maxine Evans and Elizabeth Evans. Niece’s Sandra Tyler, Colette Tyler, Gwendolyn Wilson, Julie Hodo, Jamie Evans, Crystal Evans, Margaret Haywood Harris; Nephew’s Kimball Tyler, Bryon Tyler, Charles Wilson Jr, Dominic Wilson, Nephew and Godson Oliver Tyler Jr. Great Nieces and Great Nephews, best friend Estella May Mason and a host of cousins and friends.
