Stephen Duffin Sr. Obituary

Stephen Eugene Duffin Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and cherished member of our family, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on September 9, 1955, in Boyds, Maryland, he lived a life of example filled with love and laughter. He left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Stephen met his beloved wife, Brenda Hopkins, in 1969. They were married in 1974 and from that union produced two beautiful children, Stephen Duffin Jr. (Diesheena) and Arvina Duffin (James). Married for 50 years, he was a devoted husband and father.

Stephen graduated from Poolesville High School in 1973. He started his career with State Highway. After 9 years, he left and started working for the City of Rockville where he worked until he retired in 2010. Stephen loved cars. After retiring, you would find him fixing and rebuilding cars. Stephen was known as the neighborhood mechanic. His love for cars led him to drag racing. On most Fridays, you could find him at 75-80 Dragway in Monrovia, Maryland. Stephen, aka Papa, Duff, and The Grill Master was the family cook. If you’re looking for him at a family gathering, just check the grill; that was his spot. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends and brining joy, laughter, and togetherness.

Stephen was a beacon of strength, compassion, unwavering kindness, and wisdom. He possessed a remarkable ability to uplift those around him, offering unwavering support and guidance. His kindness knew no bounds, and he touched countless lives through his generosity and selflessness. That’s a legacy we should all strive for. He possessed it naturally and effortlessly.

Family was core of Stephen’s life, and he was the heart and soul of our family. His love was unconditional and knew no limits. He created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and taught us all to do the same. His presence brought joy to every gathering, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.

Stephen's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Stephen was preceded in death by Perry Duffin Sr. (father) Eleanor Duffin (mother). He leaves behind his wife, Brenda Duffin, his son, Stephen Duffin Jr., his daughter, Arvina Duffin, his brothers Harold Duffin (Debbie) and Perry Duffin Jr (Sandy), his best friends Johnny Carroll, Petey Cooper, Gordon Bolden, Clarence (Noonie) Thomas, his mother in-law, Hattie Williams, His brother in-law, Charles Hopkins, Billy Hopkins (Tyina), Emmanuel Hopkins, Bernard Hopkins, James Hopkins, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren and countless others, who will all carry forward his memory with love and reverence.

Though his physical presence may be gone, Stephen's spirit will forever remain a guiding light, illuminating our paths and reminding us of the profound impact one life can have on the world.

As we mourn the loss of Stephen, let us also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived and the countless lives he touched. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten, for his love will continue to live on in our hearts forevermore.
