Thaddeus W. Johnson (Warren) was called peacefully from his rest at home in Landover, MD to Eternal rest on Friday, February 7, 2020 at the age of 73. He was the devoted husband of Cynthia Delores Johnson, his loving wife of 45 years who preceded him in death on November 25, 2018.
Born on May 9, 1946 in Silver Spring (Lindon), MD to the late Irene Fisher and Thaddeus Warren Dustin Johnson, Warren was educated in the Montgomery County Public Schools system attending Rosemary Hills Elementary School, Montgomery Hills Junior High School and Blair High School at which time his family moved to the Shaw area of Washington DC. Following nuptials, Warren and Cynthia moved to Prince Georges County to be closer to Giant Food, his employer for 30+ years until his retirement in 2004.
Warren loved the open road and had a passion for riding his Kawasaki motorcycles, of which he owned 3 in his lifetime. He was especially happy to pull the motorcycle out when his wife of 45 years asked to join him on one of his many journeys. Warren loved to spend time with family and friends – in fact, some visits were made by him showing up on a Kawasaki! In addition to his passion for riding motorcycles, he liked all sorts of trucks, particularly Big Rig Heavy Duty Peterbilt tractor trailers.
Warren was often described as a respectful gentle soul who was always considerate, and held in fond regard by all that knew him. With just a phone call he was always willing to lend a helping hand, when able. Often times his kind voice would enthusiastically share one of his many memoirs, his vast knowledge of drag racing, or as an avid fan -- the status of the Washington Redskins (both on and off season). Warren was a true gentleman who loved listening to all types of jazz music from various artists. He most often listened to jazz guitarist George Benson, the “Empress of Soul” Gladys Knight, and the amazing voice of Phyllis Hyman.
Warren leaves to cherish his memories, his four children: Crishone, Darrick, Arita and Thaddeus Johnson; grandchildren, Shomari Oden; Tristan, Taylor, Tyler and Darrick (Jr) Johnson, and Destiny Kemper; great-grandchildren, Keishawn, Kylie, Ky’Mari Oden; sisters-in law, Diane Barnes, Maxine Prather, Portia Jackson; brothers-in-law Charles Delauder, Tyrone Jackson (Amy), Jerome Jackson and Andre Johnson (Kim); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife Cynthia, Warren was preceded in death by his siblings Gladys Thomas, Kenneth Wood, Sylvia Hall and brothers-in-law Raymond Prather, Antonio Jackson “Tony;” and nephews George Barnes, III “Dewey”, Barry E. Thomas and Malcolm W. Thomas.
