Tyrone Anthony Hines, known to his loved ones as “Hines” or “Ty” passed away on August 14, 2023 in Washington, DC, at the age of 70. Born on September 19, 1952 in Wuerzburg, Germany, Tyrone was a well-known and respected member of the community.
Tyrone’s educational journey took him to Gordon Junior High School and Western High School. He valued education and always encouraged others to strive for excellence.
Tyrone was a loving and devoted family man, cherishing his family, friends, and faith. He had a vibrant personality and was always ready for new adventures. He was known for his enthusiasm, Tyrone would often call his children daily to check in and inquire about their activities, always eager to be a part of their lives. Sunday family gatherings were a must for the Hines family, and Tyrone never missed a single one. He took pride in being the first to arrive and the last to leave, ensuring that he cherished every moment spent with his loved ones.
Tyrone had a strong faith in Jesus Christs and was a praying man. He encouraged others to pray and believe in Christ, always reminding them of God’s promises. His optimism was contagious, and he never allowed negative energy to affect him.
In his professional life, Tyrone worked diligently for various organizations. He served as a courier at Arnold & Porter from 1992 to 1995 and later joined the United States Department of Interior where he worked until his retirement in 2007. From 2019 until his passing, Tyrone worked at Wholefoods.
Tyrone had a passion for sports, particularly baseball, football, tennis and basketball. He also enjoyed shopping and was known for his impeccable fashion sense. Road trips were one of his favorite pastimes, as he loved exploring new places and embarking on new adventures.
Tyrone will be deeply missed by his surviving family members, including his siter Brenda Hines; his children Cedric, Donna, Tihis, Tyria, Lindsay, Tylia, Tymel, Tahja and Tiah, as well as his twenty-eight grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; five dear friends, Michael Phillips “Uncle Mike”, Linwood Green “Uncle Linny”, John Carpenter “Uncle Button” Doug Farley and Eddie Van.
He was preceded in death by his father George Hines; mother, Doris Hines; brothers, Leroy Washington and George, Jr.; sister Patricia; son Tyrone Jr. and grandson, Dayquan.
Tyrone Anthony Hines will be remembered for his vivacious spirit, love for his family, and his unwavering faith. May he rest in peace, knowing that he has left a lasting impact on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
