Vaughn Douglas Proffitt

Vaughn "Doug" Proffitt passed away on August 8, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Proffitt, and children. Born on November 3, 1945, Doug grew up in Rockville, Maryland and lived there for most of his life. He was the proud father of five daughters—Jacqueline Proffitt, Joanne Rupp, Kimberly Jorgensen, Amy Adams, and Heather Dell. He was our hero.

Anyone who knew Doug would say he was the smartest person they had ever met. This was evidenced by his acceptance into MIT on an academic scholarship as a young man and by the fact that he could talk at length about most any subject well into old age. Two of his favorite topics to discuss were space and politics. He could also tell a great dad joke.

He was a carpenter and helped build many beautiful homes in the area. He was a voracious reader and a skilled painter, with several of his works being displayed around the house over the years. He was also an excellent cook, and the family looked forward to his Sunday dinners. He loved Maltese dogs. He was the kind of father who was always there for his daughters no matter what. We love and miss him more than words can say, but his legacy will live on through us. Private memorial service to be held.
