Virginia Walker Obituary

We mournfully announce the passing of our mother, Virginia Smith Walker, 84, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Virginia gained her wings on May 10, 2023.

Virginia was born on July 9, 1938, to her parents Pearl Smith and Charles Vaughn, in Lawrenceville, Virginia. She graduated from James Solomon Russell High School in 1956, and soon after moved to Chapel Oaks, MD, to reside with her aunt, Mollie Walker.

Virginia worked as a Medical Records Supervisor at The Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, MD (now known as Walter Reed National Military Medical Center). She enjoyed her work as a Federal Employee and was extremely proud of her accomplishments. After a long and storied career, she retired in 1998.

Always happy to see you coming, she loved being surrounded by loved ones and “chopping it up”. She enjoyed hosting and entertaining family and friends. Virginia's home was "The House", always open to anyone and everyone. She spent many years serving as a Foster Parent for Montgomery County, housing and caring for a countless number of children and youth in need.

Virginia is survived by her son, Michael N. Smith (wife Tonia) of Germantown, MD; her daughter, Yvette G. Walker of Germantown, MD; a brother, Charles (Barry) Wellman; One Granddaughter, Mikea F. Smith; Five (5) Grandsons, Anthony W. Simms II, Michael N. Smith Jr., Brandon J. Simms, Justin M. Smith, and Julian M. Smith; one Great Granddaughter, Milani A. Smith; special family friend, Vincent Harris (wife Georgette) and a host of relatives and friends.

A private memorial service for family and friends will held in her honor.
