Walton Pittman Obituary

Walton Marshall Pittman was born on September 6, 1940 in York County, Pennsylvania, the youngest son of Charles William Benjamin, Sr. and Rachel Pittman. The name “Marshall” was given after Captain Marshall at the Yorktowne Hotel. During the 1940’s, York, Pennsylvania had one integrated junior high and one integrated high school. Marshall was the first black student to integrate the elementary schools in York. Marshall met and married Darlene Claudette Andrews on December 15, 1962. Together, they had two children, Walton Marshall “Marty” Pittman, Jr. born November 24, 1963 and Tamara “Tammy” Jeanene Pittman, born May 12, 1965. He and Darlene had only been married four years when she passed on February 26, 1966. In 1968, Marshall met Carolyn Jean Belcher and after a long courtship and three years later, they married in Washington, DC in 1971. In 1975, he and Carolyn had a daughter, Marcia Nicole and seven years later in 1982, a son Marc Anthony. After an illustrious career with the Peace Corps and the Department of State, Marshall retired in 2002.

Marshall Pittman is survived by his wife of 54 wonderful years Carolyn Jean, who retired from the Department of State in 2004. He leaves behind four children, Marty, Tamara, Marcia and Marc Anthony and seven grandsons - Darron (25), Khari (21), Jordan (20), Tristan (18), Bryce (15), Lucas (4) and Christian (8 months).
