Willliam Mueller, Jr. Obituary

In loving memory of William (Bill) Mueller Jr., 75, of Germantown, Maryland, we are saddened to announce his passing on October 2, 2024. He was born August 19, 1949, to the late William Mueller Sr. and Dorothy (nee Steg) Mueller in Chicago, IL.

Bill, a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother is survived by his wife, Donna (nee Hughes) Mueller of Germantown, MD; son, William (Julie) Mueller of Germantown, MD; grandsons, Lukas Mueller of Rockville, MD and Hunter Mueller of Germantown, MD; sisters, Linda (Bruce) Shipley of Morgan Hill, CA and Dorothea (Richard Nakamura) Mueller of Oxnard, CA and a large extended family.

Upon graduation from Niles West High School in Illinois, Bill joined the US Navy to serve his country.  He served for 8 years and earned the Good Conduct Award while achieving the rank of Interior Communications Electrician Second Class. Following his honorable discharge, Bill met the love of his life, the woman who would stand by his side through thick and thin, Donna. They had a son whom they named after his father and Bill absolutely loved being a dad.

Using the knowledge and skills he gained in the Navy; he landed a job in the US Federal Government as a Nuclear Engineer of the power plant at NIST where he worked tirelessly and faithfully for 40 years. Following his retirement, he took a parttime job working at a golf course where he was able to enjoy his favorite pastime.

Bill was a kind soul with a warm and caring heart. His intelligence was impressive, and his knowledge base was extraordinary. Bill was a formidable opponent, and nobody stood a chance against him when watching his favorite TV gameshow, Jeopardy. He also challenged his mind with daily crossword puzzles. Bill had a passion for trains and his collection was extensive. He loved a good meal and enjoyed dining in restaurants. The thrill and fun of taking his grandsons to amusement parks and riding roller coasters, which can be seen in the pure joy captured on his face in photos, was another favorite pastime of Bill’s. He had a soft spot for his furry friends, treating his own dogs like the valuable family members they were. Bill had a quiet demeanor for a man of such large stature, yet everyone listened when he had something to say. A man with a simple taste of slacks and t-shirts, Bill focused on providing his family with the best life possible without worrying about himself.

Bill was truly a great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who loved him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever ingrained to everyone who knew him.
