Zelda Morton Obituary

Zelda Maria Morton (Peaches/Nee Jones) entered eternal rest on Saturday April 3, 2021. She was born on January 5, 1956 in Washington, DC.  Zelda was educated, lived, and worked her whole life in the Washington Metropolitan Area where she enjoyed many long-term friendships from childhood, throughout her work-life at the Capital Hilton Hotel as a ‘Sous Chef’ and as a home health aide, which she loved. She also cherished the fellowship of her brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus her Lord and Savior. She gave her life to the Lord in 1978, was filled with the Holy Spirit and grew in the knowledge of her faith at the New Testament Church in Northwest, D.C.

Zelda always encouraged others, even in the way she chose to handle her short battle with her illness. She kept it close between herself and her Savior. She remained faithful to her calling, a prayer warrior, for loved ones and strangers alike. She was our Evangelist, a Woman of God, always prepared with the Word of God and a prayer for anyone she encountered.  She was strong and very clear minded about what she wanted until the end. When her heart was heavy with pain, you never felt it, she always had a positive word in every situation or circumstance. Even in her last hours she would say, “We All Have to Cross That Bridge.”

If you ever met her, she would be a friend for life. She loved her children, and everyone else’s too. Zelda had a special knack for nicknaming children, which made each of them feel special whenever she greeted them with her special name for them, accompanied with long hugs and those momma-auntie kisses. Her generous heart and laugh will forever be with us.

During her younger years she loved to roller skate and spent many hours at the Roller Rink where she skate danced with the United Wheelers Roller Skating club. She loved the beach, loved taking pictures and loved being around family and friends.

Zelda was preceded by her parents Harold Jones and Elsie Branch-Jones, brother McKaig Jones, granddaughter Crystal R’nae Morton and leaves to cherish her memory her children Mondell ‘Sweet P’ Morton and daughter-in-law Lessly Palencia, Andre Morton and daughter-in-law Twanda Johnson, Markeeda-Leah Merriweather, Dorian Maurice Merriweather, and Angel Morton; her grandchildren Jovan, Janiece, Jamal, Jamil, Jaekwon, Marcus, David-Jr, Neveah, Abigail, and Kai; her great-grandchildren Joshua, Liam and Layla; her siblings Harold Jones and sister-in-Law Ilean Jones, Bernice Noland, Shalita Jones, Pamela Butler, Monica Jones, Linda Stringer and brother-in-law Earl Stringer and a host of nieces, nephews, loving relatives and friends.
