A TIME TO BE BORN
Bertha T. Gaither affectionately known as “Bert” was born August 22, 1940 to the late Thomas Thornton Sr. and Margaret Adams Thornton.
A TIME TO LIVE
Knowing the day would come, when the Master would call her home, Bertha professed her love for God at an early age. She was known as an evangelist for she was always spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ. Bertha united with The Holy Scripture Church of Christ and remained a faithful and loyal member.
She grew up in Fairfax County where she attended Public Schools and graduated from Luther P. Jackson. During her career she was a hard worker at Fairfax Hospital and the Government Printing Office.
A TIME TO LOVE
In 1962 Bertha met and married Robert Gaither (Deceased). This union brought together one son.
A TIME TO SERVE
Bertha was a faithful servant in the vineyard. She loved winning souls for Christ. Under the Pastoral ship of Elder George Marshall, Bertha’s service to the Holy Scripture Church of Christ was extensive. She served in the following ministries over the years: She was part of the “1st Generation” Young People’s Group, Several Choirs: The Fellowship and the Alpha & Omega Choirs under the Directorship of Mother Adele Marshall and Cynthia Stewart; the Usher Board where she became the President, Bertha had a hunger and thirst for God’s Word. Therefore, she was always in Bible Study and Sunday School.
She supported her husband and became close friends to members of the Allen Chapel AME Church, Silver Spring, MD and Pastor Alan M. Gould, Sr.
A TIME FOR FUN
Bertha had a passion for Bowling where she became a champion of many Trophies. She also loved shopping along with taking numerous Bus Trips.

A TIME TO REJOICE
Although our hearts are saddened, we celebrate the life of our dear “Bert.” We rejoice in the Lord for He is good. God has taken her to her just reward. We rejoice in the fact that our great God gave us this jewel for seventy-eight years. Finally, we rejoice in the fact that even though she is absent from the body, she is present with our Lord.
