Charles Franklin Kosh, Jr., only son of the late Charles Franklin, Sr. and Ruth Walker Kosh, departed this life Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Laurel Regional Hospital. He was born July 7, 1943 in Sandy Spring, Maryland.
He was a graduate of Harriet Tubman High School in Simpsonville, Maryland. Charles enlisted in the United States Army on February 10, 1956. He served in the Viet Nam War receiving several medals of honor which included the Viet Nam Service Medal, Campaign Medal w/Device and the National Defense Service Medal. On February 9, 1971, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army.
On July 20, 1990, Charles married the former Shirley Marie Moore in Arlington, Virginia. They were married 28 years.
He was employed at Fairland Nursing Facility, H.T. Brown Realty and Laurel Racing Association. In August 2008, Charles retired from the Laurel Racing Association after 11 years of service.
He was a member of an auto club along with his nephew Michael Kosh. Another one of Charles’s passions was playing cards and pitching horseshoes with his family and friends.
Charles leaves to cherish his fond memories, his wife, Shirley Marie Kosh; three sisters, Thelma of Laurel, Mildred of Delaware, and Emma Kosh of Baltimore; five sisters-in-law, Doris Samuels, Joan Clark, Joan Moore, Joyce Smith (Edward), Mary Ogburn all in Laurel, MD and Phyllis Hickman, Washington, D.C.; one brother-in-law, Edward Moore, a host of other relatives and friends.
