Ernest Powell Obituary

Ernest Powell quietly and peacefully departed this life on Tuesday December 3, 2019. " Doug" as he was affectionately known was one of nine children to Evelyn Pumphrey. Doug was born December 26, 1953, in Cheverly, MD.  He was raised in a Christian home, in his youth he attended St. Marks United Methodist Church. Doug was educated in Prince Georges County Public School, where he played on the varsity basketball team.

Doug started attending Christ Is the Answer Church in Annapolis, MD with his mother and family. He was baptized on March 10, 2002. Doug enjoyed spending time with his father at the racetrack, where he grew to love horse s. He enjoyed watching sports and was a dedicated Dallas Cowboys and New York Knicks fan. Doug shared his basketball talent with his youngest daughter, Dani, who he enjoyed cheering at her high school and college basketball games. He loved dancing and was known for his famous "two-step". Doug loved his daughter Nyika, he was proud to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day.

Doug loved his Brothers and Sisters. He enjoyed talking with his sister Marsha, who he called "Big Sis". He enjoyed spending weekends at his baby sister house Dina, who he called “Baby Sis".  He shared special times with his sister Deborah and her girlfriends (Roxanne, Darleen). Doug enjoyed partying with his sister Marydell. Doug had a close bond with his brothers Michael, Tom, Raymond and Rickey. Doug spend a lot time with his brother Raymond and loved having Sunday Dinner s with him.  He enjoyed his brother's famous ribs.  Doug was a very compassionate person. He made sure that he called his mother, daughter, sisters and brothers weekly.  He would ask about all his nieces and nephews, he would say tell them I love them, they would refer to him as (Dougie Fresh).  Doug had a special love for his Aunt Maryland and Uncle Jimmy.

Doug leaves to cherish his memory - Mother, Evelyn Phumphrey, Father, Albert Bland, daughters Angelic Powell, Nykia Potts III, Danielle Thomas, Grandchildren's James, Dominic, Jordon, Justin and Denim. Brothers Tom, (Judy), Raymond , (Cristal) and Rickey (Roxanne), Sisters Marsha (Oludouton), Deborah, Marydell (Ronnie), Dina (Gordon); Glenn Bland (Antoinette), Linda Roback (Jason), Mason Bland (Robin), Kenneth Scott, aunts Delores (Oliver), Maryland (James) and Barbara (Floyd Sr). A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, great-great nieces & nephew s, and cousins. Doug cherished his close friend Wilber Nicholson and special friend Melissa Davis. Doug was preceded in death by his brother Michael Morgan; Nephew Ronnie Stewart King Jr; grandparents Lee and Thelma Powell; sister, Renda Hunter; aunts: Thelma, Eleanor and Cherry: uncles: Leroy, Harold, Phillip, Charles, Melvin, and best friend Sammy Nicholson.
