Mary Thelma Bruce was born in Bowman, South Carolina. Daughter of Loyla Mae Bruce and Marion Collier. As a child, she and her family moved to the Washington, DC area where she attended school. After graduating from Cardozo High, Mary joined the Air Force in 1955 where she received technical training and worked as a Cryptogapher.
She married Don Perkins and from this union four children were born.
After her tour of duty in the Air Force, Mary worked for the Federal Government. She worked as a Secretary/Administrative Assistant for the Treasury Department and later (retiring from) the Commerce Department.
Her son Vincent Irving and her brothers Martini and Raymond Martin predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters Christle, 'Robyn, and Toni; her grandchildren Laila, Mark, Christopher, and Joelle; her brother Rudolf and her sister Jean.
Mary loved a good mystery, good jokes, spicy food and her family.
She attended Catholic services at several churches including St. Patrick's and the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
Mary was not a complicated soul. She was not concerned with the material things of this world; she had neither gold nor riches, but she did have a multitude of prayers. She was a praying soul and she modeled that for us to see as she prayed for us, every day.
Mary knew Jesus and always desired an even closer walk with Him, and so she is...
