Mary Vaughns Obituary

Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and Friend, Mary Elizabeth Towns Vaughn’s was born in Boykins, Virginia on October 17, 1930. She was the youngest child of the late Will and Thenia Towns. Mary had two brothers who preceded her their names were Tommy Towns and Willie Mack Towns. Mary attended elementary school in Boykins, Virginia. As a child Mary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ has her Savior and she was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church. Later she came to Washington, D.C. in the mid 1940's to live with her grandmother and cousin the late Beatrice Knight. Mary attended Francis Junior High School and she worked part-time. In her twenties, she went to take classes in cosmetology and after she completed the classes was license. She worked at Gaston of Paris Beauty Salon for many years in Bethesda, Maryland. In the early 1950's Mary met the late Willie Joe Vaughn and from that relationship three children were born Wilma, Michael and Anthony. In the 1990's a job opens at Barnard Elementary School as a Teacher Assistant and someone told Mary about it and she applied. God had answered her prayer, because she could be with her grandchildren. Mary loved children and she worked with various teachers and in the cafeteria when needed. Often, she would see a child or children come to school late and they had miss breakfast time, but Mary would see that they had something to eat. She would also bring food in her bag just in case it was needed. In 1988 Mary came to Mount Carmel Holiness Church of Christ under the direction of the late Bishop Raymond Jones. Mary enjoyed the Services and she wanted to get baptized again because this time she understood the importance of the Gift of Salvation and what it meant that changed in her life.Mary attended and participate in church events and she worked in the kitchen with other ladies. She loved Bishop Raymond Jones and Mother Bumetta Jones. After Bishop Raymond Jones retired then her new Leaders became Apostle Coletta L. Jones and Pastor Ronald P. Jones. Mary at­tended various classes at the church he enjoyed them. She loved Apostle Coletta L. Jones and Pastor Ronald P. Jones. Mary leaves to cherish her memory - daughter - Wilma Vaughn, sons -Michael Vaughn and Anthony Vaughn, grandsons - David Willie Suggs (Prudence) and Mark Richardson, granddaughters - Christina Suggs, Jordyn Middleton, Jakayh Vaughn, great-granddaughter -Tamela Suggs, Kierra Richardson, Shyna Richardson, Melani Richardson and, great-grand­ sons -Mark Richardson Jr. and Marcus Richardson, Nieces - Bessie Mae Hardy, Bernice Smith and Delores Towns. Nephew - Michael Towns, Jackie Middleton - goddaughter and Valerie Baylor - goddaughter.  Host of Relatives and Friends, Golden Girls - Thelma Lewis, Eula Hamer and Fannie Baylor.
