Alberta Johnson Obituary

On Monday January 10, 2022, The Master called Alberta Martha Johnson's gentle soul was called home to her final resting place. Alberta was born on February 10, 1929, in Germantown, Maryland. The daughter of the late Alphonzo O Jackson, Sr. and the late Martha L McDonald in Germantown, Maryland. She was educated in the segregated schools of Montgomery County. She was an avid learner and really loved going to school.

At the age of 6 years old she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal saviour. She had many gifts; including playing the piano by ear, writing songs, and her melodic powerhouse voice truly touched the hearts of those that heard her sing. She really loved the Lord and enjoyed ministering the word to anyone; young or old that needed an encouraging word.

Alberta attended Seneca Community Church from an early age. She served as a trustee for many years. She was an original member of the Seneca Community Chorus also known as the Seneca Gospel Chorus. She served as the treasurer for many years. It was not unusual for the group to minister in song on multiple programs on Sunday's. She was well known for her duet, "Give Me My Flowers" that she sang with her brother "Bub". She loved the Lord with everything she had. She read her bible daily and could recite various passages from memory.

Alberta married Winfield Johnson, Sr. and this union produced three children, Winfield Jr, Carolyn, and Gail. Her love for children made her a natural caregiver. She babysat for many families and she was like a second a mother to many. She loved her grandchildren, and they loved her too! She was Grandma, Ganny, Ninny, and Sugar Foot.

Miss Bert loved fashion and she had a flair for interior design. She could take an ordinary household item (furniture or accents/accessories) and add her designer touch. This fashionista was admired for her exceptional taste in clothes. She was affectionately known as the “hat lady.” Although she purchased her hats from the store, she would add her own personal embellishments making them look like they were originally designed that way. No sewing machine needed; because she sewed by hand.

Alberta leaves to cherish memory: her daughter, Gail Johnson; one daughter-in-law, Earlene Johnson; four grandchildren, Yvette Taylor, Melvin Johnson (Ramone), Ursula Swales (George), and Lafayette Crutchfield; 16 great grandchildren, Natesia Johnson-Samuel (Jay), Anthony Lynn, Christian Taylor, Jordin Diamon, and Matthew Swales, Marcus Young, Danielle Young, Will Tearney, Nichelle Bradley (Thomas), Kayla Young, Kirby Crutchfield, Brittany Cuff (Mychal), Alexis Crutchfield, Brianna Crutchfield, Reese Nester; 9 great great grandchildren, Kenji and Azai Samuel, Jacob and Genesis Lynn, Elijah, Aiden, and Journey Isaac, Bailey Bradley, Jachai Rorie, Kaeson and Leilani Cuff; two sisters, Ethel Wilson, and Mary Alice Young; one brother, Benjamin Jackson; one sister-in-law, Helen Jackson; one devoted son, Kyle Hose; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfield Johnson, Sr; her parents, Alphonzo and Martha Jackson; her son, Winfield Johnson, Jr; daughter, Carolyn Robinson; one granddaughter Hope Johnson, two brothers, Alphonzo Jackson (Bub), and Clarence Jackson.
