Obituary

ARTHUR MALLEN REID, SR., BELOVED SON OF THE LATE ARTHUR MILTON REID AND LANGHORNE SMITH REID, WAS BORN ON NOVEMBER 22, 1934 IN LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA. JOI ING HIS LORD AND SAVIOR, ARTHUR ENTERED ETERNAL REST ON SUNDAY, JULY 24, 2022.

AT A YOUNG AGE, ARTHUR ACCEPTED CHRIST AS HIS LORD AND SAVIOR AND WAS BAPTIZED. ARTHUR WAS THE SECOND CHILD OF TWO CHILDREN. JEAN BRYANT RATHER WAS THE OLDEST OF THE TWO. HE LOVED HIS ONLY SISTER AND EVEN THOUGH HE WAS THE YOUNGEST HE WAS VERY PROTECTIVE OVER HER.

ARTHUR WAS EDUCATED IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM OF LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA. AT THE AGE OF 10, ARTHUR AND HIS SISTER CAME TO WASHINGTON, DC TO LIVE WITH THEIR AUNT LAYLORAND UNCLE WILLIAM. HE ATTENDED ARMSTRONG AND CARDOZA HIGH SCHOOLS.

AFTER GRADUATING FROM CARDOZA HIGH SCHOOL, ARTHUR ENLISTED IN THE AIR FORCE WHICH HE WAS STATIONED IN ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO. WHEN THE TIME WAS RIGHT, HE SENT FOR HIS TRUE LOVE, FLORENCE MORGAN REID. THEY WERE UNITED IN MARRIAGE, AND FROM THAT UNION, SHERAN FLORENCE REID, MICHAEL ARTHUR REID, AND ARTHUR MALLEN REID, JR. WERE BORN.

AFTER THE PASSING OF FLORENCE REID, ARTHUR MET AND FELL IN LOVE WITH INEZ MATTHEWS AND THEY WERE WED IN OCTOBER 1995. THE TWO OF THEM ENJOYED GARDENING, SPENDING TIME WITH THEIR FAMILIES, AND LOVING ONE ANOTHER. AFTER 23 YEARS OF marriage, INEZ PASSED AWAY FROM HER BATTLE OF CANCER ON NOVEMBER 21, 2018.

ARTHUR WAS A DEVOTED AND COMMITTED MEMBER OF ALLEN CHAPEL AME CHURCH UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF REVEREND ALAN GOULD. ARTHUR SERVED ON THE TRUSTEE BOARD AND SANG IN THE MEN'S CHOIR. ARTHUR LOVED SERVING THE LORD IN MINISTRY AND ENJOYED THE FELLOWSHIP AT HIS CHURCH. WHEN HIS FAMILY WOULD VISIT HIM AT HIS CHURCH ESPECIALLY ON FATHER'S DAY, ARTHUR WAS ECSTATIC. HE WOULD WALK THEM AROUND THE WHOLE ENTIRE CHURCH JUST SO THEY CAN MET EVERYONE IN THE CHURCH.

OFTEN TIMES HE WOULD VISIT ABUNDANT LIFE COGIC, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF PASTOR TREVIS HALL. ARTHUR ALWAYS ENJOYED THE FELLOWSHIP BUT ESPECIALLY DURING THE PANDEMIC WHERE HE WOULD WATCH THE SERVICES ONLINE. HE WAS INSPIRED BY HOW THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD WAS THERE.

ARTHUR MALLEN REID, SR., LEAVES A STRONG LEGACY OF FAITH, LOVE, STRENGTH COURAGE AND COMPASSION TOWARDS OTHERS.
