Billy Charles Arnwine

Peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, April 19 at the age of 89. Billy was born November 7, 1934 in Jacksonville, TX to Floyd and Carrie Arnwine. He was raised in St. Louis, MO, a graduate of Sumner HS (’53) and Lincoln University of MO (’58). Upon graduation he began a highly decorated career in the US Army including both active duty and reserves, serving in Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Upon retiring from active duty, he began a long federal career working at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense (DOD). He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Taliaferro Arnwine, his former wife of 15 years, Betty Holloway Arnwine, brother Floyd, and sisters Annie Zella, Dorothy Dee, and Barbara Jean. He is survived by his six children Hope, Patricia, Lori, Kristina, Michael, and Scott, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren as well as a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. A born leader and trailblazer whose spirit touched many lives; he will be forever cherished for his charming demeanor and generosity. Services will be held at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Rockville, MD on Friday, May 3. Visitation at noon and service at 1pm. Inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be scheduled at a later date.
