Catherine Virginia Jones

Catherine Virginia Jones was born to the late Phillip Stevison and Mary W. Chase on June 18, 1927, in Unity MD.  She was the third child of three born. 

She was married to the late Kimmon Jones and out of that union were six children.

Catherine Jones worked at Montgomery County Public Schools for thirty (30) years and retired in 1989.  She was one of the third-generation members of the Chase family worshipping and serving at Oak Grove A.M.E. Zion Church as a life long member.  Sister Catherine has been a diligent servant to God and her community. She ushered for fifty (50) plus years along side Sister Nettie Dorsey. She served many years as a Trustee Board member and has been known to visit the sick, offer rides, and volunteered.  She lived just two blocks from the church and is well-known in the community as the “Cake Lady”.  She was a member of the women’s board at Montgomery General Hospital.  

Catherine Jones was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.  She loved her family very much.  She was a die hard Dallas Cowboy Fan. She recently celebrated her 93rd birthday and was truly a blessing to all. 

Catherine Jones was preceded in death by one child Sheila Jones, one sister, Sarah Coates, one brother, Pete Clemmons.

She is survived by her children Norma Bishop (John), Larry Chase (Lucille), Silvia Wallace (Lawrence), Cynthia Dorsey, and Donna Holas; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grand children; 12 great great-grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.
