Claudius Josephine Thwaites peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Rockville, Maryland at the age of 95 years. Josephine was born on September 14, 1924 in Manhattan (Harlem), New York, to Walter and Alice Swanston.

She received her primary education in the New York City School system before receiving an Associate degree from Brooklyn College. Josephine worked as a Social worker for 30 plus years in New York City. Josephine moved to Rockville after the passing of her only child, Jon Alexander Thwaites, to be closer to her grandchildren. Her daughter-in-law, Melanie Thwaites, her five grandchildren, Jon Thwaites Jr., Justin (Ebony) Thwaites, Jeremy (Sylvia) Thwaites, Jennine Thwaites, and Christina (Paolo) Calvo, survives Josephine. She also leaves behind nine Great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews along with a multitude of extended family and friends.
