Dorothy Brooks Obituary

Dorothy Louise Hammond Brooks was born January 22, 1939 in Montgomery County.  She was the daughter of the late Clara Elizabeth Hammond and James Junior Pugh.  Dorothy lived in Maryland her whole life, and she received her education at Carver High School in Rockville, MD.  Dorothy was married to the late Willie Frank Brooks, Sr. for 57 years, where they resided in Gaithersburg, MD.  From this union, they were blessed with 5 children:  Karl Brooks, Sr. and 4 children who preceded her in death:  David Brooks, Doretta Brooks, Sharon Brooks, and William Brooks, Sr.

Dorothy worked at State Farm in Gaithersburg for 20+ years, where she retired from.  She then started her own hair salon business in Gaithersburg for ~10 years, before retiring from there, but continued to do family and friends hair; as this was something she loved to do. Dorothy's home church was "Goshen United Methodist Church" located in Gaithersburg, where she really enjoyed going to, when she was able to.  Dorothy had a flair for fashion.  She always wore a suit and a beautiful hat. No matter where you saw Dorothy, she was dressed to impress!

Dorothy had many passions in her life: doing hair, going to church, her love for fashion and butterflies.  But she also enjoyed her occasional bus/car trips to the casinos with her family and friends. Her favorite color was purple and the loves of her life were her grandchildren and great-grandchild. Dorothy was a strong-willed woman.  She had many stories to tell; some good and some not so good, but she was always herself and that was just the way she wanted her family and friends to be.

Dorothy leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her loving memories:  one son, Karl Brooks, Sr.; four grandchildren; Karl Brooks, Jr, Lindsey Brooks, Davis Brooks, and Morgan Brooks; one great-grandchild; C-Jay Taylor; one Aunt, Alice Hinton; two daughters-in-law, Bonnie and Cortney Brooks; three ex-daughters-in-law, Leila Boyd (was like a daughter to her), Lauren and Connie Brooks; one sister-in-law, Shirley Bowie; one brother-in-law, Romulus Meekins; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, who will all miss her dearly.  She was preceded in death by three sisters:  Mable L. Hackey, Mary A. Meekins, and Clarice E. Lyles; and four brothers:  Benjamin A. Bowie, Jr., James W. Bowie, Richard A. Bowie,
