Edith Elizabeth Simms-McKoy

Edith Elizabeth Sims-McKoy, 71, of Rockville, Maryland peacefully passed away on Friday, April 24, 2020.   

Edith was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on March 30, 1949.  She lived her life like it was Golden; regal and draped in purple! Soft spoken, well-regarded, and wise.  She was the oldest of nine children born to the late Leonard and Virginia Mayo.  In life, Edith pursued a higher standard of living for herself, her siblings, and her children.  She received her formal education in the Virginia Public School systems and trailblazed a path towards the DC Metro area, where she worked and retired from Schinnerer Insurance Company. 

After retiring she fortified her family roots in Rockville, where she met and married Constantine McKoy.  Edith was a dynamic, yet resilient and gentle spirit who had a smile that would light up a room.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, going to the casino, and of course her Washington Redskins.

Edith is survived by a great legacy - her loving husband Constantine; son Jason and his wife, Katty; stepson, Ryan; special sons Harold and Raymond; grandchildren Kenneth Darnell, Demari, Xavier, Jason, Khayla, Autumn, Gianni, Marcus, Harold, Justin, Raymond and Rai’nique; one great-granddaughter, Tylah Kennedi; siblings, Gloria, Tyrone, Linda and Rosa; as well as a host on nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Kenneth; brothers, Leonard, Jr. and Leon; sisters, Freda (Jackson) and Jacqueline. 

 Family, friends, loved ones and others whose lives Edith elevated are encouraged, share fond memories, reminisce, and support one another by staying connected and safe.  All donations are being accepted by the family through Gloria Williams.
