Edward Lee Bishop, known by most as “Bubba,” departed this earthly life at Adventist Healthcare, Takoma Park, MD on June 11, 2019 from complications of congestive heart failure. Edward was the third eldest of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Laura Bishop and his siblings, Dorothy, Gladys, and George. He was a resident of Spencerville, Maryland all of his life.
Edward graduated from Lincoln High School located in Rockville, Maryland in June 1949. He was an adeptly skilled math student. After graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged as Lance Corporal Edward Bishop in 1959, an honor he cherished the rest of his life. After he left the Marines, he gained employment at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory and remained there for 32 years, retiring as an aerial ballistic photographer. A consummate perfectionist, Bubba held himself to a very high standard of performance and expected the same from those with whom he worked.
Bubba married the love of his life, Kathryn Boston. They knew they could and would weather any storm together. Their love would help them survive and sustain through sunshine and rain. From their union they were blessed with three children, two sons and one daughter, Troy, Kim and, Twyla. Their children would give them five grandchildren: Desiree, Kassandra, Cory, Ryan, and Micah.
In his earlier years, he was a faithful member of Mount Calvary AUMP Church, serving, at one time, as the Sunday School Superintendent. He was an ardent gardener, an accomplished chef, a car fanatic, a Mister Fix-It, and a staunch fan of the Baltimore baseball and football teams, the Orioles, the Colts and later, the Ravens. Although, as much as he enjoyed listening to baseball on the front porch, cooking the family Sunday dinner, or identifying antique cars, his greatest joy was found in his interactions with his grandchildren. He would often be heard posing the rhetorical question, “Who’s father are you?” or offering the “gift” of a “knuckle sandwich.” His grandchildren will always have a special place in his heart.
He leaves to cherish precious memories of him, Kathryn, his beloved wife of 63 years; three children, Edward “Troy”, Kim, and Twyla; five grandchildren, Desiree, Kassandra, Cory, Ryan and Micah; two sisters Alice Moore (Robert) and Mary Robinson; two brothers-in-law, John Boston (Arletta) and Thomas Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
