Emory Elwood Reddix

Born during the Great Depression in Washington D.C. Emory Elwood Reddix commonly known as "Em" or "Grandpap" by his grandchildren; entered the world on August 18, 1930. The biological son of the late, Mr. William Willis and the loving late Mrs. Mozell Reddix.

Emory became a devoted son to the late Mr. Samuel Reddix. In Emory's early ages of life, he transitioned to Berryville, VA. In 1934 Emory and his mother relocated to a local "rooming house" in beautiful Takoma Park, Maryland. This home was located on "Ridge Ave" which is known today as "Ritchie Avenue". Emory received his education within the local Montgomery County, Maryland Public School System. He attends both elementary and middle school grades at the historic "Takoma Park Colored School" located on Geneva Ave. A community landmark, known now as "Green Hill Child Development Center". His high school years were spent at the historic "Lincoln High School" in Rockville, Maryland. After establishing a lifelong fatherly bond with his stepfather Mr. Samuel Reddix. The new family soon moved down the street to 107 Lincoln Ave. At age 14, Emory received his first paying job; under the direction of a neighborhood local named "Major Fisher" with the City of Takoma Park's Garbage Division. In October 1951, Emory was drafted in the United States Army as an Army Engineer. During his military career he was stationed in London England. He received the United States Army's Good Conduct Medal. Eventually, Emory transitioned to the United States Army's "Standby Reserve". He later received an Honorable Discharge in October 1959. Returning stateside, Emory would later marry the love of his life; his "sweets" the late Mrs. Ardeania Jordan on September 10, 1955. From their loving union, 8 children were born. Emory always maintained a hardworking mindset; he developed a very fulfilling 25-year career as a Truck Driver with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). He later retired with pride on September 13, 1990. Emory enjoyed many pastime activities throughout his life. Such hobbies included fishing, camping, cooking, family BBQ’s, playing cards, pitching horseshoes, watching western movies and most importantly "dancing with his wife". He also took great gratitude in donating to various charitable organizations. The American Cancer Society, Paralyzed Veterans of America, AARP Foundation and United Way are just to name a few. Emory is preceded in death by his parents; his cherished wife Mrs. Ardeania Reddix "Ganny"; his son Emory Anthony Reddix; his daughters Valorie Reddix and Terry Lynn Reddix-Seals.He leaves to continue the family legacy; to his remaining children, Brenda T. Christopher, Victoria Reddix (Albert) Tony Reed Reddix, MaryAnn Reddix and Timothy Ray Reddix; Son in-law James M. Seals.

Grandchildren: Darnell (Jackie), Monica (Gene), Fritz   "Lil Tim" (Rasheeda), Teah Dee, Deiandre, Tony R, James "Sweet pea", Mariah and Niya Lynn.

Great- Grandchildren: Raina, Darnell "Lil D", Emory, Ebony, Jordan, Jar-riel, Ariana, Amara, Xavier, James Jr "J2", Jibril, Jannah and Baby Jhilyn on the way.

Great-Great Grandchildren: Micah, Gabriel, Jeremiah, Baby Karter and Baby Michael.

His dedicated brother and best friend Samuel "Pete" Reddix; sister in­ law's Jan Harley and Donna McQueen.

Nephews and Nieces: Tony, Tonya, Brandon, Ashley and Courtney; a host of cousin’s other relatives and friends... Including his close buddies Mr. James Casey and Mr. Robert Jones.
