Gladys Mae Williams

Gladys Mae Williams departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. She was born September 17, 1925 to the late Richard and Pearl Taylor in Greensboro, Alabama. Gladys was united in marriage to Joseph Williams, Sr. (deceased), on July 10, 1945, and moved to College Park, Maryland. From this union, they were blessed with two children, Joseph Williams, Jr., and Gwen Williams Templeman. They later bought a home in Beltsville, Maryland where she resided for 65 years before moving to Columbia, Maryland.

Upon coming to Maryland, Gladys worked at Albrecht 's Drug Store for many years, leaving there to be employed at TISCO (IT Company) until her first grandchild was born. She later retired to take care of all her grandchildren until they all graduated from high school.  She had a great love for each of them.

Gladys joined First Baptist Church in March 1960 and became an active member-working out her soul's salvation. She served in many capacities as she juggled numerous responsibilities. She was appointed a Deaconess, served as president of the Lydia Missionary Circle, sang with the Volunteer Choir, worked diligently with the Willing Workers and also served on the Usher Board.

Most people called her "Mom Williams" and the members of the church knew she was quick to provide constructive criticism, but she just as quickly followed up to give praise where it was due. Her friendly personality made it difficult to say no to her. She had love for everybody even when things were not going right, and was very strong when she had to be, but she would "suffer the wrong rather than do wrong".

Deaconess Williams leaves to mourn, one son, Joseph M. Williams, Jr.; one daughter, Gwen Williams Templeman; a devoted daughter-in-law, Patricia Williams; three grandchildren Tony Williams (Erica), Michelle Williams-Ellerbe and Renelle Templeman; 10 great -grandchi ldren: Dej a, Darius, Deylan, Danyel, Daniel, Daryl, Antonio, Dawn, Isaiah, and Elijah; one sister, Sue Hicks (William) and one brother, Chauncey Taylor; 10 brothers- and sisters-in-law; Alma Taylor, Johnnie Williams, JC Williams, Callie Harris, Ethel Williams, Anna Williams, Earnest Williams (Virginia), Jimmy Williams (Cornelia), Doreen McCormick, Lula Sheppard (Rodney) and a host of other relatives and friends.
