Lawrence J. Harrington, affectionally known as “Pete”, was born on May 20, 1938, in Washington, D.C., to the late Alonzo and Verna (née Gordon) Harrington. He attended the Military Road School and graduated from Cardozo High School in the D.C. public school system. Shortly after graduation, Lawrence joined the U.S. Army on October 12, 1961. Upon completion of Basic Combat Training, he deployed to the Republic of Korea and was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion, 7th Calvary Brigade as a Heavy Weapons Infantryman where he attained the rank of Private First Class. Lawrence was Honorably Discharged on October 12, 1963, and returned home to continue life and raise his family.
Lawrence began working for the Erlich Poultry Company as a truck driver and was active with the Teamsters Local 639 until his retirement. In his leisure time Lawrence loved football, baseball, wrestling, listening to oldies, and playing the lottery. He enjoyed Saturday meet-ups with childhood friends and continued this tradition until his passing. Lawrence gave his life to the Lord and attended Bibleway Temple. He was always ready with a word of encouragement at the right time.
Although he is no longer with us, his presence will always be felt. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo and Verna Harrington; brothers Howard and Linwood Harrington; and sister Nannie Harrington (Richards). Lawrence leaves to cherish his memory sons: Anthony Harrington, Lawrence Harrington, Jr., and Angelo Harrington; daughters: Annette (Alan) Webb and Deanna (Isaac III) Peay; grandchildren: Antwan Harrington, Shanel Harrison, Natalie Harrison, Simone Boyd, Angelo Harrington II, Myles Harrington, and Tori Harrington, as well as great-grandchildren: Antonio Harrington, Madison Harrington, Nyco Harrison, and Nayomi Harrison along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
