Leonard G. Matthews, Jr., affectionately known as "Bunk" was called from earthly labor to heavenly rest on Tues day, June 18, 2019, at Doctor' s Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland. He was born June 28, 1950, to the late Leonard G. Matthews, Sr. and Alice V. Matthews, in Laurel, Maryland. He was the oldest of three siblings.
Leonard was educated in the Prince George's County Public School System. He graduated from Laurel High School in 1969.
Leonard was gainfully employed at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland, until his retirement in 2005. After his retirement from Federal Service Leonard continued to work in Transportation at Kindercare Learning Center; Laurel Bus Lot, Prince George's County; and Smith's Bus service in Anne Arundel county until his untimely death.
Leonard loved spending time with his family and friends and also enjoyed watching the "Mares and Stallions" run, and watching his favorite football team "The Cowboys."
Left to cherish his life and memory: his devoted mother, Alice V. Matthews; two children, Leonard G. III, and daughter Christel Wade (Ronald); two sisters, Viola Matthews and Elaine Matthews Smith (Melvin); four grandchildren, Lauren, who preceded him in death, Lafayette, Latesha and Jeremiah; three great-grandchildren, Messiah, Elijah, and Zena; five aunts, Catherine Clark, Carolyn Pete, Elsie Matthews, Juanita Smith, and Joan Clark; two uncles, Ronald Smith (Angela) and Donald Smith; two devoted nephews, Melvin N. and Brian L. Smith (Linda); one great- niece, Morgan; three great-nephews, Miles, Chase and Brian, Jr.; a devoted friend, Mary Passmore, and a host of other relatives and friends.
