Omer Jean-Marie Matingou passed away peacefully the afternoon of Thursday, September 9, 2021, with the love of his family surrounding him.
Omer was born in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo on September 9, 1940, to Sébastien and Maleka Matingou (Louise). He received his Political Science degree from Lycée Technique. Shortly after receiving his degree, he married the love of his life, Elisabeth. From this union came three children, Genevieve, Tatiana, and Merly. Omer worked in the administrative department of his alma mater before transitioning to become the Secretary to the Congolese Ambassador for six years. It was this career transition that brought him and his family to the United States of America.
Omer loved God and did not mind telling you about his trust and faith in Him. He lived every day according to Matthew 7:12, “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets”. He was a firm believer in the Gospel and made a practice to discuss and spread the love of the Lord with all that entered his presence. He loved and admired his family and would do anything that he could to help others. He was a compassionate and giving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor to all that knew him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 48 years, Elisabeth Matingou; three children, Genevieve Matingou (Andre), Tatiana Matingou and Merly Matingou (Danielle). In addition, Omer had five grandchildren Rebecca Koussibila, Joshua Koussibila, Marie-Elizabeth Kabeya, Gabrielle Matingou, and Madisyn Matingou. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
