Palmalenia Earline Anderson Whyne was born on July 11, 1948 to Lucille and Leonard Anderson in Kingston, Jamaica, the youngest of three siblings. Called her “Polley” by her father, she was affectionately known as “Precious” and Pam by all who knew her. She slipped away in the loving arms of her Savior, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 surrounded by her family.
After she graduated from high school, she was sent by her parents to learn a trade as a seamstress in Jamaica. Even though she did not make a career out of this trade, she did not let what she learned slip by the wayside. With this new skill, she was able to make several dresses for her daughters when they were younger. Because sewing was one of her favorite past-times, one of her first big purchase when she came to the United States was to buy a second-hand Singer sewing machine.
On September 26, 1973 she married the love of her life Frank Michael Whyne. To this union four children were born: Beverley, Denise, Tracy-Ann and Shawn. Seeking better opportunities for her family, she migrated to the United States alone with the help of her brother Morris in the early part of the 1980s.
She lived in Bronx New York for a time where she worked to save money to help bring her family to the US. She moved from New York to Washington DC because she did not want to raise her family in New York. She set to making this place a home for her family and made sure that not only were their physical needs met but their spiritual needs as well. Thus, one day someone told her about a Seventh-day Adventist church that was not too far from where she lived on Peabody Street, NW. Precious did not drive (and never did) so she traveled by foot to find this church located on Shepherd Street. The First Church of the Seventh-day Adventists would become her church home even after she and her family later moved to Maryland. Precious was an active participant in her church where she sang in the Chancel Senior Choir and attended Sabbath School, and Divine Worship services weekly. She was a devoted follower of Christ and would often witness when the opportunity presented itself. Although she was a quiet person, her presence made an impact on everyone she met.
Precious worked at National Institute of Health in the Housekeeping department, and as a Dietary Aide at Hebrew Home of Greater Washington. She worked at the Rockville Nursing Home for over 10 years as a Dietary Aide before retiring in 2013. After her retirement, she spent most of her time taking care of her family and witnessing to others.
One of her favorite Scripture was Psalm 125:1 “They that trust in the Lord shall be as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth forever.” Although she had several favorite hymns, she would often sing hymn number 500 “Take Time to Be Holy”. Despite not being in the best of health in her later years, she never complained and kept her faith down to the very end. She was a faithful wife, loving mother, mentor, generous supporter, kind comforter, and devoted friend, who will be truly missed.
Predeceased by siblings, Morris Anderson and Yvonne Anderson, Precious is survived by her husband, Frank, her children Beverley, Denise, Tracy and Shawn; grandchildren Andrew, Paula, Kyle, Jezel, Jeremiah, Josiah, Naziah and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, close friends, church members, and neighbors.
