Rodney Minor, Sr.

Rodney Minor was born on September 24, 1955 to Nellie C. Minor in Bethesda, Maryland.  Rodney was called by the Lord to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.  He grew up with five brothers, the late Ricky A. Minor, the late Camrod L. Minor, the Late Calvin N Minor, Cameron L. Minor and Chris Minor.

Early on, Rodney resided in Washington, D.C. and attended the District of Columbia Public Schools, later he relocated to Capitol Heights, Maryland. Rodney completed his schooling at Bladensburg High School in 1975. He enlisted in the US. Army in 1977 and honorably discharged in 1983. The Army provided him the opportunity to see the world. He was stationed in Hawaii, Germany and various places in the continental US. This sparked his love for travel and visiting exotic place.

In June of 1979 Rodney was joined in holy matrimony to his childhood sweetheart Denise A. Wilkins. Out of this union they were blessed with three wonderful children. The family settled in District Heights after he completed his military service.

After his military service he worked as a Special Police Officer at Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C., later he took a position with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). He began as a Metro bus Operator and was later promoted to Station Manager. He retired in 2015 after 30 years of service.

In 2015, Rodney was blessed with the birth of Josiah D. Minor

Josiah kept Rodney young at heart and brought much joy to his life.

Rodney truly lived his life to the fullest through simple pleasures. Early in life Rodney was active in youth sports and played organized football in the D.C. area as well as various other activities.  He was also an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and enjoyed nothing more than to be with family on Sunday afternoons watching his beloved Forty-Niners take on any opponent.  He attended church on Sunday mornings, hosted cabarets with his 4Sure Production brothers and often traveled with family and close friends. He loved shopping for fine clothes and shoes. Attending annual jazz festivals was a passion that he had throughout his adult life. After giving his life to Christ, he became a member of Faith Temple No. II in Capitol Heights, MD.

Rodney was preceded in death by his brothers Camrod, Ricky and Calvin. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving children, Keesha Jackson (Neko),

LaTisha Minor, Rodney Minor, Jr. (Jessica) and Josiah D. Minor, his mother Nellie C. Minor, his sweetheart and former wife Denise Minor, grandchildren Kamya Smith, Dallas Crawford, Khamani Minor, Gregory Marshall, Ma'Kenzii Minor, Kyair Jackson, brothers, Cameron Minor (Jatisha), Chris Minor (Sandy) and a special friend Amira Toppins, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed

Walk A Little Plainer Daddy

Walk a little plainer, Daddy, said a little boy so frail. I'm following in your footsteps, and I don't want to fall. Sometimes your steps are very plain, sometimes they are hard to see, so walk a little plainer, Daddy, for you are leading me. I know that once you walked this way many years ago, and what you did along the way, I'd really like to know. For sometimes when I am tempted, I don't know what to do. So, walk a little plainer, Daddy, for I must follow you. Someday when I'm grown up, you are like I want to be. Then I will have a little boy, who will want to follow me. And I would want to lead him right and help him to be true. So, walk a little plainer, Daddy, for we must follow you.
