Ronna "Pony" Nicholson Obituary

Ronna Diane Summerour Nicholson, affectionately known as Pony, was born to the late Roy D. and Estelle C. Summerour on August 5, 1950 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. On Tuesday, February 19, with her husband and daughter by her side, she entered into the presence of the Lord.

She was educated in the Montgomery County Public School system, graduating from Richard Montgomery High School in 1968. After graduation she attended Montgomery College.

Her first job was at Rose Wood State Hospital during a summer program. She later went on to work for Montgomery County Public Schools and retired after 28 and half years of service .

Over the years she received several service awards including Montgomery County Public Schools Division of School Plant Operations Supervision and Leadership and Building Service Basic Skills Certifications, and the Montgomery College Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Edu cation Plant Equipment Operations Certification.

Pony joined the Inter-denominational Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Phillip W. Davis, Sr. on May 25, 1975 and was baptized on July 23, 2003. She served in various ministries over the years including the Usher Board and Choir.

On May 23, 1976, she gave birth to her only child Kenya Michelle, whom she lovingly called Monkey.

On June 2, 1994, she married Harlan "Nick" Nicholson.

Pony's hobbies included making homemade rolls, lemon meringue pie, pig feet, and chitterlings. In the family she was the "go to" person for medical questions, how to get a stain out, and hemming. And oh, that mouth of hers! One never knew what she was going to say but she was a good person, first in line to help out when needed.

She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 24 years, Harlan "Nick" Nicholson; devoted daughter, Kenya Craven; four step-daughters, Dedra Avents, Nicarcia Battir, Nichole Nicholson, and Rita Weaver-Nicholson; two adopted daughters, Shirley "Flossie" Love and Michelle Taylor Brown; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-step­ grandchildren; fourteen great-great-step grandchildren; two brothers, Jeffrey "Big Dog" Summerour, Sr. and Mitchell Summerour Qackie); four sisters, Anita Walker (Phillip), Wanda Summerour, Paula Norman and Vicki Summerour; eight nephews, one devoted, Matthew Summerour; six nieces; two aunts, Madeline Washington and Mary Bro wn; very dear friends, Peggy Hackey, Cle and Dameron Jone s, Loretta "Chi Chi" Offutt, and Miriam Weinstock; godchildren, Chase Huff, Zoe Huff, Ryan Isreal, Naomi Jone s, Jo shua Jones, Tracy King, Eric McDonald, and Kenneth Wilson; her "girls" Jessica Spears and Thyler Williams; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Estelle Summerour, and siblings Derrick, Greg, Nina and Rory Summerour.
