Sarah Claggett Obituary

Sarah L. Claggett went peacefully to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at her home in Laurel, Maryland.

She was born to the late J. Jacob Nolan and Elizabeth H. Harriday on July 5, 1930 in Montgomery County, Maryland.  She received her education in the Montgomery County Public School System. She gave birth to nine children and married the late Isaac Ross Claggett, Jr.   They resided in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness (Proverbs 31:27). Sarah was a dedicated and dependable housekeeper providing her services to several families for many years until she retired.  In her leisure time she could be found enjoying bible reading, baking, gardening, or challenging her mind through word puzzles.  She was a collector of Waterford crystal and angels.

In 1993, Sarah joined God’s Universal Kingdom Christian Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Fernette Nichols where she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and was later appointed to the Mothers Board.  Later, after the passing of Bishop Nichols, Mother Claggett became a member of God’s Olive Branch Ministries (Pastor Martha Holmes).  In 2010, Mother Claggett joined The Word of God Ministry and Mission under the leadership of Pastor Randolph Hamlin.  She was a dedicated and committed servant of the Lord. She remained faithful in attendance and service until failing health required her to relocate to her daughter’s home in Laurel.  Mother Claggett then continued her fellowship with believers under Pastor Denise B. Satterfield of Prodigal Sons Christian Church through “Watchcare Ministry” (Psalm 133:1, “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”)

Mother Claggett’s Christian walk was one of quietness yet persistence.  She experienced the trials of life but had learned that with Jesus she was more than a conqueror, and she lived to pass that message on!  One would often hear her quiet and heartfelt murmur of gratitude and praise, “Thank you Jesus.”  She valued her relationship with her Savior and sought to maintain fellowship with Him and the body of Christ.  She blessed all who came within her reach with a smile that offered both comfort and encouragement.  And, in passing, she left with a smile gracing her face as a reminder to us that “All is well.”

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Gloria Rajah, Paula Norman (James), Sharon Marable,       James Claggett, Wade Claggett, Faye Hamlin (Pastor Randolph), Eric Claggett, Michael Claggett, and Trudy Claggett; her sisters Alice Ridgley, Mary Ann Washington, Willistine Prather, Joanette Prather, and her brother Joseph Prather, Jr. (Doris); 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of other family, friends and church family.
