A Time to be Born: Teresa Renee Garey was born on June 12,1959 in Wheaton, Maryland as the third of five children to Thomas E. Garey, Sr. and the late Doretha E. Garey. Affectionately called “Doozy”, Teresa spent her childhood growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland where she was educated within the Montgomery County Public School System and attended Paint Branch High School.
A Time to Plant: Teresa was free-spirited, resilient, independent, and shared a deep love for her family as she proudly raised five daughters, Nakia, Latonya, Shari, Megan, and Jazzalee. Within her daughters, she instilled her strength and stressed the importance of family as she often stated, “family is never broken”.
A Time to Cherish: Teresa enjoyed cooking, shopping, fishing and spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. Further, her love and appreciation for family allowed her to develop a genuine love and compassion for helping others, which grew into a profession as she worked with disabled children for more than a decade.
A Time to Depart and to Mourn: On January 1,2019, Teresa transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories, her devoted father, Thomas E. Garey, Sr.; five loving daughters, Nakia (Markey) Palmer, Latonya, Shari, Megan and Jazzalee Garey; two siblings, Beverly Miller, and Thomas (Diane) Garey, Jr.; five grandchildren, Danasia, Xavier, Sydnee, Zion and Zaiden, and a host of loving family and friends. Her mother, Doretha and siblings, Eric and Juanita preceded her death.
God looked around his garden and found an empty space.
Then he looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face.
He Put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
