Walter Dwane Moten, of Rockville, MD, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 11, 2022, at the age of 57 years old.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Walter Dwane Moten affectionately known as "Mook or Moe" was born on August 20, 1965, to the late Helen Moten and Walter Prather.
Mook grew up in Middlebrook community on Scenery Drive in Germantown, MD where he made life-long friendships with many who knew him. He had a great childhood and could be found hanging with his Middlebrook (MB) crew. An avid storyteller and advise-giver, Mook was always willing to help a friend in need. He was known for his catchy phrases like, "Keep it high, keep it low, tell him Mook Moten told you so!" He was well-loved by his friends and is remembered as a loyal, protective, and fiercely-loving friend.
Mook received his education in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Having attended Seneca Valley High School, Mook was very athletic and enjoyed playing on the football team. He remained a football fan. He and Twanessa enjoyed going to the games and loved the Washington Commanders (formerly the Washington Redskins).
After high school, Mook began his career working as a professional auto detailer. His talent for auto detailing led him to also have his own detailing business. His passion and a keen eye for detailing could also be seen in his fashion sense. Mook was always sharp from head to toe! He dressed "to the nines:' and he always smelled good! Later in his career, he went to work for MCPS, where he made lasting friendships and left an indelible impression.
Although Mook & Twanessa knew each other since their high school days, it was on Valentine's Day 2013 that they were reintroduced and began their forever romance. After a year-long courtship, it was then that Mook rededicated his life to the Lord. Mook and Twanessa were united in holy matrimony on August 17, 2014. Together, they enjoyed attending Church of the Redeemer. They also loved to travel, spend time with their children and grandchildren, attend family gatherings, play spades, go to sporting and music events, and spending quality time with each other and their beloved dog, Chino.
Mook was a devoted husband and family man who had a vibrant personality, always making the people around him feel loved and important, especially his "Middlebrook" family.
Walter is survived by his loving wife Twanessa Stevenson-Moten, 2 sons; Antoine Ford (Shantell) and Dayvon Butler (Natasha), in addition to his 2 bonus children; Brandon Dorsey and Bria Robinson; 2 sisters; Margaret "Peanut" Williams (Gary), and Tanya Moten-Greene (Antwan); 5 brothers; Todd Lancaster (Evelyn), Scott Lancaster (Tierney), Michael Prather (Santita), Kevin Prather, and Eric Prather, 5 grandchildren; Antoine Ford Jr., Dayvon Jr. and Daytoine Butler, Khai and Quynh Dorsey, a stepmother Beverly Prather, brothers-in-law; Gary and Victor Stevenson (Jayri'a), sister-in-law; Kimberly Duvall, a special niece Theresa Howard, a great-niece and host of many nieces and nephews, cousins and cherished friends; Dink, Steve, Irvin, Troy, Jerry, Gary, Tony, Maurice, Darius, and other relatives, and friends.
